Build the splitter path
One stage represents one splitter traversed by the optical signal.
Common balanced configurations are 1×2 through 1×64. Custom whole-number output counts are calculated transparently; verify that the selected product actually exists.

Before issuing the design
Published insertion loss already includes the splitter's division and excess loss. Confirm wavelength, port configuration, uniformity, polarization-dependent loss, connector inclusion, temperature range, and whether the data-sheet value is typical or maximum.
Only one splitter at each stage is traversed by the modeled path. Do not multiply a stage loss by the number of physical splitters serving other branches.
