Pathways support the cable lifecycle
ICT pathways should accommodate installation, routing, identification, maintenance, and foreseeable change. Designers should coordinate pathway capacity with telecommunications spaces, cable-support systems, project phasing, and future growth rather than treating the initial cable count as the only design input.
Code compliance and planning guidance are different
NEC raceway-fill rules establish code context. BICSI manuals and standards provide broader ICT design and installation practices. Project specifications may adopt planning limits that are more conservative than the maximum area permitted by code.
Bends affect pullability
Bends can increase pulling tension and complicate installation, but they do not change the NEC Chapter 9 raceway-fill percentage. The calculator therefore keeps bend warnings separate from fill treatment. Its default method applies no bend-based reduction. Optional manufacturer/project methods can apply a reduction to every 90-degree equivalent or only after the first two equivalents; a custom-fill method is also available when the governing project documents require it. None of these options calculates pulling tension, sidewall pressure, bend-radius compliance, lubricant performance, or cable jamming.
